Minister of National Defence, Nuno Melo, announced this Monday at the Paris Air Show 2025 the purchase of a sixth KC-390 aircraft from Embraer for the Portuguese Air Force, strengthening the country’s military capabilities and the involvement of its defence industry.
Ricardo Pinheiro Alves, Chairman of idD, accompanied the Minister during the visit to the exhibition, where it was also announced that an option for the purchase of ten additional units will be made available to NATO allied countries. This positions Portugal as an active promoter of the KC-390 and creates new opportunities for the national defence industry, particularly in the areas of production, maintenance, and services.
Seventeen Portuguese companies with recognised competencies in aeronautics, technological innovation, and industrial capabilities are taking part in the Paris Air Show. Some of these companies are represented at the stand promoted by AED Cluster Portugal, while Tekever and AMOB have individual stands. Their presence at the event strengthens the international positioning of the Portuguese defence ecosystem.
The Paris Air Show, taking place until 22 June at Le Bourget Airport, is one of the world’s largest and most prestigious events in the aerospace and defence industries, bringing together companies, government entities, and decision-makers from around the globe.
