The Army Technological Experimentation Exercise (ARTEX 24), organized by the Portuguese Army and conducted by the Army Technological Experimentation and Modernization Center (CEMTEx), took place from June 17 to July 5 at the Santa Margarida Military Camp. The event was attended by the Minister of National Defence, Nuno Melo, the Secretary of State for National Defence, Ana Isabel Xavier, and the President of idD Portugal Defence, Carlos Félix.

Open to the national business, technological, and academic sectors, ARTEX 24 involved the participation of 19 institutions, including companies and universities, which conducted a total of 35 tests on various systems. This joint effort aimed to identify solutions to address gaps in the capabilities of the land forces and continue the modernization process of the Army, enhancing interoperability between military capabilities and the projects presented by the Portuguese Army’s partners.

  • Phase I: The Army provided land and air space, as well as the electromagnetic spectrum, where participants conducted individual experiments.
  • Phase II: The participants’ technological solutions were integrated into a tactical test scenario, contributing to the execution of military operations.
  • Phase III: Some entities conducted experiments involving live fire, including tests of ballistic protection integrity, explosive tests, loitering munitions tests, and tests with inert artillery grenades.

idD Portugal Defence also promoted applications for military systems and equipment qualification brands, in collaboration with the Portuguese Army.

The exercise culminated with a technological exhibition of national companies, showcasing a diverse range of technological capabilities, including advanced drones, personal protective equipment, technological textiles, innovative software solutions, surveillance and detection systems, UAS counter technologies, composite materials, ballistic vests, and other technologies.

ARTEX 24 reaffirms the ongoing commitment to the modernization and strengthening of the national armed forces.
