On November 14th, idD moderated the panel “Funding and Opportunities for Next-Gen Defence Innovation” during Web Summit 2024.
The panel provided an opportunity to present the tools available to companies in the defence sector, particularly DIANA, a NATO acceleration program for startups, and the NIF – NATO Innovation Fund.
The panel, moderated by idD, featured representatives from the Directorate-General for National Defence Resources (DGRDN) and Faber Ventures, with the support of Startup Portugal.
The NIF recently announced an investment in a new Faber fund, along with the European Investment Fund (EIF) – which anchored the fund – Caixa Capital, and several Portuguese family offices. The fund was launched with a financial envelope of 31 million euros, with plans to increase it to 60 million euros in the coming months. Faber primarily invests in deep tech in Southern Europe, particularly in Iberia, and this fund targets innovative startups in pre-seed and seed phases in applied science and digital transformation, including vertical AI and AI governance, robotics, bio and computational chemistry, data infrastructure, and innovative computing.
