idD Portugal Defence e Damen assinam Carta de Intenções

On October 18th, idD Portugal Defence and Damen Shipyards Group signed a Letter of Intent during Industry Day in Gorinchem. This agreement aims to deepen collaboration in shipbuilding and promote the integration of the Portuguese industry into the global value chain of this sector.

Both entities have committed to identifying synergies to strengthen industrial collaboration between idD Portugal Defence and Damen entities. Knowledge sharing on maritime technologies and the involvement of Portuguese suppliers in Damen’s supply chain are central pillars of this partnership, which seeks to enhance national participation in global shipbuilding projects.

The signing of the Letter of Intent formalized the strategic collaboration between idD Portugal Defence and Damen, bringing benefits to the European defence and security ecosystem. Beyond the defence sector, Damen’s diversified portfolio offers opportunities for Portuguese companies to participate in international projects, contributing to new export opportunities and long-term growth.

This event followed a similar meeting held in Portugal and brought together 23 BTID entities along with representatives from idD Portugal Defence, AED Cluster Portugal, aicep Portugal Global, the General Staff of the Armed Forces, and the Portuguese Navy, totalling 33 national participants. Over two days, approximately 50 pre-scheduled meetings took place between BTID entities and Damen experts, alongside additional impromptu discussions.

Carlos Félix, Chairman of the Board of idD Portugal Defence, emphasized the importance of this partnership for the future of naval defence in Portugal:
“We are grateful for the trust Damen has placed in us and remain committed to meeting the high expectations set for this partnership. Together, we will ensure that the Portuguese Navy is equipped to face the challenges of tomorrow while promoting the development of a strong and competitive shipbuilding industry in Portugal.”

Carlos González Martín, Damen’s Regional Sales Manager for Spain and Portugal, also expressed his enthusiasm for this collaboration:
“The signing of this declaration of intent demonstrates Damen’s commitment to seeking cooperation opportunities with the Portuguese industry, both in Portugal and globally. We look forward to continuing the excellent cooperation with our Portuguese partners in the coming years.”

idD Portugal Defence thus strengthens its role in promoting international partnerships that consolidate Portugal’s position in the global shipbuilding industry, aligned with the values of innovation, sustainability, and operational excellence.
