The European Commission has adopted the fifth annual work programme under the European Defence Fund (EDF), allocating €1.065 billion to collaborative research and development projects in the defence sector.
The EDF Work Programme 2025 unlocks substantial funding to support the development of critical technologies and capabilities in the defence sector. Key areas of focus include land combat, space, air combat, energy resilience, and environmental transition. The programme also introduces measures to support SMEs and Mid-Cap companies through the EU Defence Innovation Scheme (EUDIS). More HERE.
The new work programme launches nine calls for proposals across 31 topics, including:
- 15 research topics for new defence technologies
- 15 development topics for advanced capabilities
- 1 topic supporting the network of national focal points for the EDF
Additionally, 14 topics are planned to support the Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform (STEP), targeting digital technologies, technological innovation, clean and efficient technologies, and biotechnologies.
There are also two grant agreements to support the Defence Medical Countermeasures Alliance.
