idD Portugal Defence visited several research centres and interface units of the School of Engineering of the University of Minho (in Guimarães) and the INL – International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (in Braga) together with the Innovation Division of the Navy’s General Staff.

These entities promote cutting-edge R&D and have a vast experience in knowledge valorisation, in the civil sector but also in the military domain, so this visit intended to present opportunities for funding and integration in working groups specifically aimed at academia promoted by NATO, the European Defence Agency and, at a national level.

At the University of Minho’s School of Engineering, idD got to know in greater detail the work of DTx – Digital Transformation CoLab, the ALGORITMI research centres (information and communication technologies and electronics), METRICS (mechanical engineering and resource sustainability), CTAC (sustainable and resilient territories), ISISE (sustainability and innovation in structural engineering), 2C2T (textile science and technology), and IPC (polymers and composites), as well as Fibrenamics (composite and fibrous materials), CCG (information technologies) and communication and electronics) and TecMinho.
