The European Defence Fund supports projects in critical areas with €1.1 billion in 2024.

The European Defence Fund (EDF) Work Programme for 2024 includes 32 topics, structured into six thematic calls, two non-thematic calls, and two support actions for the Alliance for Defence Medical Countermeasures.

The programme will support projects in critical areas such as the neutralization of hypersonic missiles, development of unmanned vehicles, and secure space communications. It also prepares for the next generation of defense systems, including helicopters and medium-sized cargo aircraft.

The EDF has a budget of around €8 billion for 2021-2027, with €2.7 billion allocated for collaborative defense research and €5.3 billion for collaborative capability development projects that complement national contributions.
